I attended my first sports fixture at the age of five when my beloved Torquay United were beaten by Lincoln City. Since then, I have been to a plethora of events across many sports and countries. Aside from football, I am immensely passionate about ice hockey, cricket and motor racing.
My pursuit of sports journalism began during the latter stages of my A-levels, when I enjoyed six months of work experience at the Mid-Devon Advertiser. I volunteered for either one or two days a week, and while there discovered the life of a local reporter in a newsroom. I covered local sports, council meetings, planning reports and much more, which gave me invaluable insight into the industry and inspired me to go to university.
At the time of writing, I am in my third year of studying Specialist Sports Journalism at the University of Derby. Following my academic performance in the first year of my studies, I was selected to receive the Dean’s Award in recognition of my achievements.
During the first lockdown in 2020, I began to write for VAVEL.com. I solely covered the Bundesliga initially, but eventually shifted my focus to football on English soil. With VAVEL, I have been accredited for Premier League and Football League matches in both the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.
Alongside this, I have contributed to Exeter City Football Club’s award-winning programme, The Grecian, throughout the same time period. My League Two Review features have appeared in each edition produced for a league fixture and explore a variety of themes in the division.
Away from home, I continue to hold the position of media assistant at Worksop Town Football Club. As part of the media team, I have travelled across the country to report on the Tigers, be it by live-tweeting matches through the club’s official account or composing on-the-whistle reports for the website.
During the week, I help in the creation of the matchday programme as well as providing graphics and other website material.
I began working as an assistant to the media team at Derbyshire County Cricket Club in the summer of 2021. My responsibilities included operating cameras at home fixtures, controlling live stream overlay, writing match reports and creating the official club programme. Under the guidance of the England and Wales Cricket Board, I also created a batch of uniformed stinger graphics to be used on live streams of every club competing in the 2021 Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
